Liquid crystal display; the type of display panel used in almost all computer monitors today.

The liquid crystal display (LCD) is a type of display panel used for building relatively thin, flat displays.

LCD monitors were originally used for laptop computers where there was a need for a compact, lightweight display so that the computer could in fact be portable. They were initially small and often had low resolution, making them less useful for desktop computers. Later improvements in technology increased their size and resolution while reducing cost, making them the standard display technology for desktops today.
