The USB flash drive doesn’t show on device manager or disk management.

I was trying to create bootable drive for installing Windows using Rufus. I followed every step properly and it was going well, but suddenly it terminated itself. Now the USB flash drive is damaged. Windows detects when I insert it but after a while it disconnects itself. It doesn’t show on device manager or disk management.

For a few second after inserting, E: and F: show as USB but eventually it disappears. Sometimes I get a message like "USB device not recognised". But it never works.

It’s a 64GB USB flash drive and it would be very sad to lose it.

Sadly, this kind of question comes up fairly regularly. The issue isn’t Rufus or any software, but rather the drive itself. The USB flash drive itself is dead or damaged. If it is new, that stinks. But in general USB flash drives are not built to last. – Giacomo1968 Dec 25 '22 at 04:29
