As a journalist of 25 years, I've learned a lot of code ... badly. I started doing web content in the Notepad-and-FTP days, so I know basic HTML. I also took a quick class in JavaScript and a really weird community-college course in ASP, from which I retained nothing. I also had to help our IT department do sports stats with XSLT, which I picked up on the fly. When I went to college in the Stone Age, I learned a bit of Pascal alongside several Duke athletes looking for an easy computer-science credit.
Now, I'm trying to do data beyond the basic Excel/Sheets calculations. Am I too old to learn how? I hope not.
