An EWI (electronic wind instrument, pronounced 'ee-wee') is a controller which enables wind instrument players to play external synthesizers or other MIDI instruments or sometimes built-in sounds. The original EWI was invented by Nyle Steiner and manufactured by Akai, but the term is now used to refer to electronic wind instruments in general.
