Viswanathan Anand was FIDE world champion 2000-2002 and undisputed world champion 2007-2013.

Viswanathan Anand (born 1969) of India entered the world chess elite in the early 1990s. In 1995 he earned his first title match, for the PCA crown, which he ultimately lost 7.5-10.5 to Garry Kasparov. He held the FIDE World Championship from 2000-2002, and after Vladimir Kramnik unified the Classical and FIDE World Championships by defeating Veselin Topalov in 2006, Anand became the undisputed champion by winning the 2007 tournament for the world championship.

Since then, Anand has defended his crown against Kramnik (2008), Topalov (2010) and Boris Gelfand (2012).
