  • This should actually be **closed** as the user indicated in commentary below that this is about Kali. –  Feb 15 '16 at 15:21

That's because Tor is not in the regular repositories, so you'll have to add the Tor repository to your /etc/apt/sources.list. This involves some editing and importing the appropriate key. It's not difficult. The instructions are on the site of the Torproject. Take a look at option 2 here.

@StijnKvh This site is about Ubuntu. Kali Linux is not Ubuntu. – SuperSluether Feb 13 '16 at 23:58
  • @wie5Ooma Tor is in the Universe repository in 12.04 LTS, 14.04 LTS, 15.04, 15.10, and 16.04: http://packages.ubuntu.com/search?suite=all&searchon=names&keywords=tor – SuperSluether Feb 14 '16 at 00:00
  • @SuperSluether The page I mentioned claims that repository is less reliable. – wie5Ooma Feb 14 '16 at 00:48
  • @Stijn Kvh Kali linux is Debian based so the page mentioned still applies in my opinion. – wie5Ooma Feb 14 '16 at 00:53
  • @wie5Ooma Also incorrect. Tor _is_ in the official repositories. The only difference is that the official repository has version 2.6 while the latest version is 2.7. It's a version issue, not a reliability issue. – SuperSluether Feb 14 '16 at 02:11

Oh, and Debian is debian-based, but questions about Debian are also off-topic. – SuperSluether Feb 14 '16 at 02:12
  • I know the question is off-topic but I try to be helpful. Repeatedly stating that it is off-topic is wasting everyone's time while it is probably unlikely that the asker is going to ask the question on a more appropriate site thereby risking that the question is closed as a crosspost. Just my opinion... Anyway, asker knows where to look now. – wie5Ooma Feb 14 '16 at 23:13
