Does this answer your question? [How do I install a .deb file via the command line?](https://askubuntu.com/questions/40779/how-do-i-install-a-deb-file-via-the-command-line) – guiverc Jul 01 '21 at 12:37
  • @guiverc no , i mean it should be executable once i installed the program from website . why it isnt? do i need to install via cmd line? – Devina Muljono Jul 01 '21 at 12:38

A *deb* file is not executable, and should not be... If you're familiar with windows, it's sort of like a *cab* file which is not executed - you install it. (cab being *cabinet* file, *deb* being a *debian* package; both are compressed packages...) – guiverc Jul 01 '21 at 12:39

In any default installation .deb files are associated with Ubuntu Software, the app store. Just double-clicking the .deb open the store with an "install" button. It's as easy as this but you can use commands of course. – ChanganAuto Jul 01 '21 at 12:42
  • @ChanganAuto Ubuntu Software often fails to install **offline** .deb files. In particular, it failed to install Zoom .deb file for me. The most reliable GUI tool to install .deb files id GDebi. – raj Jul 01 '21 at 12:47
  • @ChanganAuto when i double click the .deb , it only show extract option, how can i do install? – Devina Muljono Jul 01 '21 at 12:51
  • @DevinaMuljono probably you have somehow associated .deb files with the "Archives" application. Right click on the .deb file, select "Open with another program" and choose "Software installation". Or install via command line as described in other comments. – raj Jul 01 '21 at 14:23
