My two floor building is built on top of clay ground.

I asked my engineer , would it be worthwhile to do plinth protection around the building. so we can avoid rain water from seeping in to the foundation.

My engineer responded that it's not required as the building is built on top of clay ground literally the building is standing on top of damp ground besides absorption capacity of clay is low.

But I was not convinced. So I thought I'd get your insights into this.

We do not know your local conditions. If you do not trust your engineer, get a second and third opinion from other local engineers. They know the ground condition and your house condition. Usually keeping excess water from a foundation is a good thing, but local conditions might mean adding water to the ground near the foundation. One of the comments on this question shows what I mean. https://diy.stackexchange.com/questions/273208/how-do-you-water-a-foundation-in-summer-if-there-is-a-french-drain – crip659 May 29 '23 at 22:51

I’m voting to close this question because it is off-topic here. This is not a DIY/Home Improvement question. – gnicko May 29 '23 at 23:42
  • It is a legitimate question here even though he won't be doing the work himself. I vote not to close. The OP seems to want to DO SOMETHING that a professional is not in agreement with. We should keep the question open to talk the OP off this ledge. – Jim Stewart May 30 '23 at 10:57
  • Where is this, i.e., what country, county? – Jim Stewart May 30 '23 at 11:13
  • This is a legitimate question, but who would trust the advice of Internet Randoms over the advice of a local engineer? Input from DIY.SE is crowdsourced generally-useful information, local engineers are *specifically-tailored-to-this-scenario* useful, we're not even in the same ballpark. • @FredricShope - you are right , but I'm taking the recommendations, suggestion with a pinch of salt. there's always a possibility of semi-skilled engineer. so trying to be bit wiser by asking questions here. – Amogam May 30 '23 at 19:03
